Goodness it's been awhile! I am ashamed!

I actually have some sketches that I've been meaning to scan, but I'm lazy. So in the meantime, please enjoy a Harry Potter, because the new trailer came out today and I am a dork... ;)

Color!

I am on a mission to make some colored..actual illustration-y things, so I drew a bored Manticore...but I chickened out on a background...sigh...Baby steps!!!

Springtime tattoos!

My cousin asked me to design her a tattoo for her birthday this year with a robin and a lady bug to represent each of her grandmothers. Luckily drawing griffins has given me good practice doodling bird-things...





I believe it's meant to be an ankle tattoo, so I'm not quite sure how much detail one can get away with in such a tiny area... I've never had a tattoo myself, so I don't know the physics of it, I'm mainly going off what I've gleaned from watching Miami Ink. ;)

Portfolio site advice?

Soooo looks like I might have some free time in June...

(Anyone need a freelance Story artist/animator/character designer? Anyone?) ;)

...and I thought I'd take the opportunity to redo/update my poor neglected portfolio site.




I NEED OPINIONS! I'm not quite sure what to do, if I should just scrap the layout entirely and make it simpler, or to keep it the way it is. Is there anything content-wise I should have more of? Less of? Get rid of? I never know what to do with this stuff...but I do want to start sending it around to places so I feel it needs some polishing...cause I'd like to, ya know, get work. ;)

The name game!

OK, so names...I think I should name these guys so that I can refer to them without being confusing. I think that the girl's name will be Temperance Annalise Butterworth (named for one of Matthew's ancient ancestors), or "Tansy" for short.

Her Griffin pal I'm still debating...which would be a better name for a teenage griffin that likes to read books about pirates? So far I can't decide between Duncan or William. Duncan seems kind of expected to me for some reason, William I like because Matthew and I have been doing a lot of genealogy research lately and in both of our families, William seems to be the most common name through out history, and I thought it would be funny to give a rare magical creature a common name.

I think I'd like to call the lil baby griffin Diana, or Dinah (for Alice's cat).

Build a better Mouse Trap...

So this morning I uncovered Mr. Peepers cage and two mice fell out. This is getting ridiculous. The traps I put out are still untouched BTW.

Anyone have a better Mouse trap I could borrow??

More Griffin comic sketches! Still trying to get a feel for Mr. Griffin character....I still like the smoother lines and simpler shapes...I think it balances out the volume of the lil gal better...

So as a result of my exciting and inspiring trip to MOCCA I have decided I might just attempt to do a lil comic of my own, Alas, I really have no idea how to go about doing this so any advice would be welcome! LOL!

I've started building up a little story around that Gryff girl I keep doodling, since she keeps popping up whenever I take time to draw. Last night I tried working out some designs for her griffin pal (who may or may not be named Duncan) I think I like the last couple ones the best so far, smoother lines and simpler shapes...what do y'all think?

Owww...

So after being fired up to do AWESOMENESS after last weekend's MOCCA fest.....I got my ass kicked by some horrid illness. Perhaps this is the mythic Con-Mung I've heard so much about?

I feel this properly illustrates the way my head feels right now...

Sketching in the Park with Frenchies...

I had lunch in Bryant Park this afternoon and it was AMAZING OUT so I doodled for a bit....

The Gryff girl came back again...I would imagine when your best friend is a gryffin, the biggest problem would be keeping your skirts out of the poop when you visit his nest...



Also did I mention I LOVE Frenchies?

Vamping up!

I had a dream the other night that I ran into a vampire in the ladies room. She was washing her hands in the sink, and I noticed she had no reflection in the mirror, so I asked her "If Vampires have no reflection, how do they put on all that sexy vampire make up?"

She told me that they have to have another Vampire do their make up for them. This made perfect sense to me.



I then went to see a movie, and discovered that instead of popcorn, Vampires bring buckets of fish and mice to snack on durning the show, because they're small and bite size.
